Iaido means “being in harmony with one’s surroundings, always being prepared for any eventuality”. I comes from Iru “to be”. Ai comes from Ai “to unite”. Do comes from Do “road”. Training includes Tanren, a type of physical conditioning. Also Waza, which is made up of Nukitsuke (initial draw and cut), Kiritsuke (deciding finishing cut), Chiburui (symbolic shaking of blood from blade), Noto (resheathing sword).
